Spring 2022 One Room Challenge - Week 1: Lily's Bathroom "Before"

If you’re new to our work and our blog, hello and welcome! My name is Carley Brandon, Strategy Manager for Canada’s best telecommunications company (and the most philanthropic company in the world) TELUS by day, Redesigner by night and “Love” to Grant and “Mommy” to Matthew and Lily around the clock.

This marks the 10th anniversary of the One Room Challenge and this is also my 10th time participating as a guest after transforming my daughter Lily’s room (Spring 2017), my Bedroom/Office (Fall 2017), our Stairway Library (Spring 2018), my Niece Audrey and Nephew Clark’s rooms (Fall 2018), my son Matthew’s room (Spring 2019) , our Cottage Bunkie (Fall 2019), Laundry Room (Spring 2020), our Outdoor Living/Dining (Fall 2020) and Side Yard (Fall 2021).

After renovating our main bathroom just a few weeks ago, only one untouched space remains in our seventies sidesplit … our basement bathroom! With restrictions lifted here and all of our materials ordered the challenge timing works out perfectly to push us to make over this space before summer.

“BEFORE”

Tucked away in the back corner of the basement adjacent to our pretty little laundry room from the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge and lovingly referred to as “the scary bathroom” by our kids and I, this space needs help.

It’s Week 1 of the One Room Challenge and over the next 8 weeks we’ll be transforming this now blank slate!

We’re keeping the existing footprint (keeping the sink, shower and toilet where they are) to save on plumbing costs and we’ll also make sure we tie into the heating system in the rest of the house. Without any heat source this bathroom is the coldest room in the house but not for long!

Follow along here and on Instagram for all the behind the scenes action in the coming weeks. Please also follow along with other One Room Challenge participants to celebrate 10 years of this transformative event.
