Spring 2022 One Room Challenge - Week 2: Lily's Bathroom Design Direction

It’s Week 2 of the One Room Challenge and while we’re in the not-so-pretty demo phase in the basement bathroom itself, we’re sharing the very pretty design direction here and on Insta!

We recently completed our upstairs bathroom (blog post coming soon), designed with Grant and Matthew in mind with masculine black floors, graphic wallpaper and a green vanity.

For our downstairs basement bathroom we’re going in a completely different direction with floral wallpaper and hints of blush pink for Lily and I - girly and fun!

Inspiration

Years ago when I was fairly new to the One Room Challenge I saw this beautiful powder room designed by Laura Design Co. I loved the marble floor, gorgeous floral wallpaper and classic fixtures of white porcelain and chrome. When I was thinking about designing our bathroom I immediately thought of this again and knew it would serve as major inspiration.

Design Direction

Inspired by this room we’re going to add similar elements but in our own colourful way including:

  • marble floors

  • white subway tile

  • floral wallpaper

  • polished brass fixtures

  • a pedestal sink

  • original art

We’ll sew a custom shower curtain from this Celerie Kemble blush fabric remnant, layer in some unexpected touches like a vintage Turkish rug and of course finish the space with flowers grown in our gardens. Fingers crossed that we’ll be in peony season when we shoot the space for the final reveal in May!

As of this moment the demo is complete and my brother and contractor Paul from Brancon is framing and insulating. We tested the placement of the shower plumbing fixtures, fan and light yesterday and are so close to being able to drywall.

Stay tuned for weekly updates here, more inspiration on my Pinterest and more frequent updates on Instagram. Please also take a look at the progress other participants are making with their spaces.
